MESSAGE BY THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF FRANCE IN HONG KONG AND MACAU
This year, Le French May Arts Festival offers once again a very promising edition combining the best of French arts and culture.
With 100 programs reaching out to more than 1 million people, the Le French May contributes every year to the dynamism and the attractiveness of Hong Kong as Asia’s world city. It remains the biggest French cultural festival in the Asia-Pacific region and a flagship event.
For its 27th edition, a poetic and lovely theme has been chosen – “Voyage”.
We celebrate this year the 150th anniversary of a fascinating work of the French poet Charles Baudelaire, Invitation au voyage (Petits poèmes en prose, 1869), in which he evoked “un pays superbe… qu’on pourrait appeler l’Orient de l’Occident, la Chine de l’Europe”.
“The Orient of the Occident, the China of Europe” – isn’t it a premonitory dream of what Hong Kong would have been? There is more special place than Hong Kong to host a festival dedicated to the theme of “Voyage” !
You are invited to embark now on a unique journey to France, from pop art exhibition to the latest creations of French design, mysterious baroque concerts to stellar dance performances and to the most glamourous movies. This sophisticated and generous program will transport you outside of your world at the heart of what France is: a shimmering country of creation, diversity and innovation, where cultures and inspirations meet to grow together.
I do hope you will join us to enjoy this unique French experience. Bon voyage!
