[Edu] Toolbox Percussion & SR9: Performance lecture series

Toolbox Percussion, percussive arts purveyor from Hong Kong, will collaborate with French top-notch percussion group SR9 to make music rencontre with marimba repertoire possible digitally! SR9 will perform the classic French repertoire of Ravel and showcase the contemporary techniques, while Toolbox will give a lecture as a guide to dissecting and appreciating selected programmes. This online series no doubt is a perfect introduction for any persons interested in marimbas and contemporary percussion music.

SR9 Trio
SR9 Trio (short for ” Square Root of 9 “) was founded in 2010 by Paul Changarnier, Nicolas Cousin and Alexandre Esperet , who all earned First Prizes in the percussion class of the Lyons National Music Conservatory. SR9 Trio won Luxembourg International Competition (First Prize, Press Prize and Audience Prize) in 2012, as well as the french FNAPEC 2012 Competition. SR9 Trio is invited to perform at the Pasic 2017 in Indianapolis (USA).

SR9 Trio gave 200 concerts in places such as Collège des Bernardins (Paris-France), Parc Floral de Paris (France), Chapelle de la Trinité (Lyons-France), Opera de Lyon (France) , Festival de la Chaise-Dieu (France), Festival de Menton (France), Festival Radio France Montpellier Occitanie, the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art (USA), St Peter’s Church in New York (USA), Theaterhaus in Stuttgart (G), the MIM in Brussels (B), Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven (NL), Drumworld Festival in Thorn (NL)…

SR9 Trio released their first CD entitled Bach with marimba in 2015 (Naïve Label). Their second CD , Alors, on danse ? has been released in spring 2018.

Toolbox Percussion
Toolbox Percussion has been driving percussive arts programming in Hong Kong since 2012, curating ambitious music projects and challenging the best in the field whilst also continually nurturing new musical talent in innovative ways.

Toolbox Percussion, as creative incubator, works to make new music happen by commissioning, developing, collaborating, professional training, performing, recording and touring contemporary performances.

The acclaimed Toolbox Percussion Trilogy, spread over a time span of 3-year, has been a proven success in creating cutting-edge and innovative programmes that challenged local artists, enhanced cultural exchange by collaborating with world-class musicians and developed a series of outreach and professional educational activities.

For 2018/19 season, Toolbox Percussion toured to Asia Culture Center at Gwangju in South Korea and made its US debut at the San Francisco International Arts Festival. Co-hosted with Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco, works of Toolbox Percussion is showcased in an exhibition titled “A Double Listen” for the first time in the United States. A New education initiatives Toolbox International Creative Academy (TICA) in joint effort with the University of Oklahoma is set to launch in January 2019, providing professional apprenticeship opportunity through specifically focused area of studies and learning occasions with industry professionals. Toolbox Percussion is currently three-year grantee of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
