This exhibition traces the inspirations of Huang Dan, in particular her affinity with Monet’s impressionist landscapes. A journey started in France continues in China, as Huang Dan’s continues the impressionist instinct of stripping away extraneity, further reducing colour and form to focus on the essential. The exhibition of Huang Dan’s newest paintings affirms the continuation of her journey: “a process from much, to half, to less… to none.” Huang Dan was born in Guanxi, China, in 1979. She studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with a BA from the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting in 2001. In 2004, she was awarded an MA from the same institution. Previous exhibitions in Hong Kong include 2014’s “Devotion to Ink” at the Maritime Museum, the “Cha-Na” at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2016, and “Perceptions” at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2017.
The exhibition will include a concert at the gallery on Saturday, 19 May at 3pm. Please contact the gallery for ticketing.
