Introduction

This debut exhibition presents a series of sculptural garments exploring the dialogue between movement, structure and craft. Trained at the Paris Opera House and based in Hong Kong, Lola Clavel reinterprets couture techniques through a stage-informed lens, blending precise tailoring with fluid silhouettes. Each piece balances discipline and spontaneity, experimenting with materials and construction so the body becomes both performer and form in motion.

Lola Clavel

Lola Clavel is a French designer and artisan based in Hong Kong, known for her sculptural approach to clothing and refined craftsmanship. Trained at the Paris Opera House in costume design, tailoring, and pattern making, she began her career creating costumes for opera and ballet productions across Europe before expanding her practice to Australia and Asia.

Her work bridges the disciplines of stage costume and contemporary fashion, exploring the relationship between movement, structure, and form. Through her atelier, founded in 2021, she has collaborated with institutions including the Hong Kong Ballet, French May Festival, Chung Ying Theatre, M+ Museum, Tatler Asia, and Louis Vuitton.

Working with materials such as Japanese tweed, Hangzhou silk, and Xiangyunsha, Clavel translates traditional craft into modern silhouettes that balance precision and motion. Her creations embody a dialogue between theatre and design—where fabric becomes both medium and performance.
