One of Classic FM’s “30 of the most brilliant young classical musicians playing today”, cellist Jamal Aliyev has dazzled with his “enviable technique and a rich broad palette” (Classical Music Magazine) in performances alongside such prestigious orchestras as the Philharmonia Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and enjoyed recurring collaborations with leading Turkish composer Fazıl Say. This year's French May Arts Festival, Aliyev will join hands with Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Music Director Emeritus Yip Wing-sie for the first time, playing an eclectic selection of showpieces such as Paganini’s mesmerising Variations on One String on a Theme by Rossini, and Popper’s stunning Hungarian Rhapsody.

French Music Project at CUHK 2022 brings together its talented students and performance faculty for collaboration and exploration of French music. Together with students from the Department of Music, pianist Poon Kiu Tung and guest artists will perform chamber music from 17th to 21st century greats.

Conductor Fayçal Karoui and Romanian soprano Valentina Farcas join the HK Phil on a magical mystery tour that spans the centuries: placing symphonic music by Paul McCartney and The Beatles alongside the vocal fireworks and fabulous colours of the 18th century music. Hans Christian Andersen's "The Nightingale" is a tale of East and West, of nature and technology, and of the life-giving power of the art that we call music. In this magical chamber concert, players from the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra summon up nature visions from Tan Dun and Takemitsu, and weave an extraordinary audio-visual puzzle by OZNO – plus a rare performance of "The Nightingale", as retold in words and music by the Dutch jazz legend and sonic innovator Theo Loevendie.
