«Manon» is one of Massenet’s most popular and enduring operas. A five-act tragic romance, «Manon» explores how a naive, frivolous, and impetuous young woman’s craving for wealth while struggling for romance sends her lover and herself through a passionate adventure which ends in tears. «Manon» tells a moving tale with emotions running high, scores full of charming tunes and extravagance reigning supreme.

This opera, co-presented by Opera Hong Kong and Le French May, is a co-production of Opéra de Nice, Opéra Théâtre d’Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse, Opéra de Massy and Grand Théâtre de Reims. It will feature an array of world renowned artists, including Soprano NATHALIE MANFRINO, who was the awardee of “Revelation of the Year” in the Lyrical Artist Revelation category at “VICTOIRES de la MUSIQUE” ceremony in France in 2006. In addition to receiving numerous international prizes, Manfrino’s first recording French Heroines won the “Georg Solti Prize” by the Académie du Disque Lyrique in April 2009. Manfrino was also engaged in recording the new opera «Welcome to the Voice» with pop singers Sting and Elvis Costello.

Other artists participating in «Manon» include Tenor FLORIAN LACONI, winner of the “Voix Nouvelles 2002” competition and nominee for the “13th Victoires de la Musique Classique 2006” awards in the “Lyric Revelation” category, as well as Director Nadine Duffaut, Conductor Nicola Colabianchi, and Baritone André Heyboer. The Opera Hong Kong Chorus, which was highly acclaimed for its recent performance in Mozart’s «The Magic Flute», will sing in the performances as well.
