Whether through his silhouette paintings or his much acclaimed videos such as ‘Abba Mao’, ‘Axes of Evil’ and ‘Savoir Aimer’, Pascal Lièvre, born 1963 in Lisieux, France, reappropriates icons of popular culture and mixes them to create a new language. In his paintings, Lièvre renders aspects of famous historical artworks from their geometrical structures and backgrounds, keeping only silhouettes of the main characters, to produce new minimalist, updated and familiar yet puzzling works.

The exhibition Illusions will be Pascal Lièvre’s 4th solo exhibition in Hong Kong and will include his Minimal Abstract paintings; silhouettes of Cy Twombly, Robert Motherwell, Francis Picabia or Okusai’s works re-made in bright and hip colours.  This exhibition will also feature  videos People are People – a song by Depeche Mode sung by an amateur French chorus, and Like A Virgin - Botticelli’s Madonna of the Pomegranate’ singing Madonna’s iconic song.
